Combine Somaliland's two best-known sights in a two-day trip from Hargeisa. On day one, visit Laas Geel, about 50 km out of town. Its granite rock shelters hold beautifully preserved paintings of decorated cattle and people, around 5,000 years old and first reported internationally in 2002. Then continue to Berbera on the Gulf of Aden. On day two, explore the old port town, with its Ottoman-era architecture, its fishing harbour and its beaches, before returning to Hargeisa.
